There are 2 major group in this game:
– ver 1.5x
– ver 1.8x
ver 1.5x using standard mechanic of pokemon game and ver 1.8x has massive change in sprite and even implemented generation 4 game mechanics (DPSS system).
in order this game, you must have japanese Pokemon Fire Red rom, and apply patches here:

to get ver1.5x line, use patch number 1 – 3 chronologically,
to get ver1.8x line, use patch number 4 – 19 chronologically.
that’s the official patches, if you found rom with johto extension and whatsoever, it means it was used unofficial patches.

As for why to play this over the mesh of other Touhoumon hacks, here’s a feature list:
– It’s Hoenn instead of Kanto
– It’s 1.8 instead of 1.5, meaning balance among characters
– A fully functional Physical/Special split
– Useful and sensible Ten Desires characters that can be obtained during the course of the main game
– The ability to obtain Shard evolutions without needing the National Dex, creating vast team diversity (and also allows breaking the game to a degree)
– Three “custom ubers” replacing Hoenn’s weather trio, if you’re into that kind of thing
– Enemy trainers that rely more on movesets to be challenging rather than high stats or levels
– Emerald’s music is untouched instead of being a bunch of really loud (and bad) remixes of Love Colored Master Spark
– Removal of the low HP beep so you aren’t punished for playing with sound on
– Minimal text editing meaning while people talk about Pokemon and whatnot in the script, there’s no memes thrown around
– The Battle Frontier is present for postgame instead of adding lifeless maps and trainer gauntlets

This Touhoumon set place in Gensokyo, played as amnesia Marry or Renko start at Hakurei Shrine.
A long time ago, Patchouli Knowledge grew tired of Marisa Kirisame coming and stealing her books. Therefore, she made some puppets with decent intelligence and power to keep the library safe. (She doesn’t believe in Hong Meiling at all) Unfortunately, one of the manuals had been stolen by Marisa and the thief herself made a lot of puppets for pilfering. When they came, Patchouli impatiently blew both armies of puppets and a part of the library away, included the remaining manuals. After the incident, puppets have been producing with a large amount and people got used to them. Time passes and they are now served like pets to everyone. (taken from Touhou Wiki).

– Hoenn maps slightly edited
– Kanto and Johto maps remain same as in crystal…
– Gensokyo maps mirror touhoumon gensokyo
– Java maps are custom made…

It’s really well done, even if the project was dropped. i’m still early in the hack, so i don’t know how far he got, but word is that it’s finished. He/she simply gave up on the endgame extras…

EKeine: Evolve Keine at Lv 38.
SSKeine: Use a Water Stone on EKeine.
EKeine (H): Evolve Keine with a Moon Stone.
All Keine forms can only learn Flash, with the exception of SSKeine, who can learn Surf and Flash.

You’re welcome… As for Dive users, Komachi comes to mind first. She is very common when Surfing, and she was my HM Boneka with Surf/Waterfall/Dive/Cut.
Other choices that I can think of right now would be Chiyuri and Suwako, but they can evolve into Last Words… so I wouldn’t use them for Dive.
Also, A-VIVIT is Mew’s replacement, so I’m pretty sure she can learn any HM as well.
Um… I can’t think of anything else off the top of my head right now… I’m playing Another World right now, and it’s been a while since I played World Link. Sorry… Anyway, I hope this helps.

You have to get the updated iDollDex in World Link before you can trade with MMW (I think).

To clarify, the only requirements for trading between World Link and MMW are:
– Have at least two Boneka in each party
– Have the iDollDex*
– If you’re using vbalink180, the wireless adapter option must be turned off.
*The upgraded National iDollDex is only required if you plan on trading Boneka not in the Hoenn Dex.

yes there is a diffrence, emerald is shorter, world link was created by aichi and has multiple areas where you can go to, a total of 4 regions and multiple missions in all of the regions

I found a couple glitches. In WL, If you try to interact with Shingyoku after it uses Whirlwind and knocks you out of battle, the game freezes.
You may already be aware of this, but when I bred a “male” LYuyuko with a Tori, I couldn’t take the Egg without the game freezing. You can decline to take it and the game works fine though.

Anyone can answer this, but… I’m playing the original Japanese Touhou Ningyougeki, and I was wondering: Is it true you can’t use the Heart Stones until you get the National Dex? And if so, is there any way around it, like trading with a save file that has the National Dex? I would’ve loved to use some of the alternative evolutions before post-game, so it’s getting me down.

Aichiya, why just make the stones sellable in a mid-game shop? [and activate the national dex at the game’s start]
By then, it shouldn’t be game-breaking anymore. Also, if people cheat for those stones that they may get them earlier than they should, let them cheat! It’s THEIR game experience that they are ruining.
I believe it’s much better that way [besides, the alternate evolutions have more or less the same stats as the level evolve]

Are the patches for Puppet Play Enhanced supposed to only work with the provided patching tool? UIPS doesn’t seem to work, and the tool provided in the download is a bit hard to work with on a non-Windows machine without the use of Parallels, etc. Is there a way to work around this or am I SOL?

I know that it says that Drakuaza is developing the second region,but every time I check his website there doesn’t seem to be any updates.

Dropped it entirely, Don’t even care, the end was even rushed that I didn’t bother testing it(well I tested teh ending you get when you beat a certain character 3 times) but not if you don’t, so I didn’t optimize the game to be played on all emulators, the best for it is VBA recorder 1.7.1.
That’s why people get freezes, oh well, probably if there was actually interest in the game by more people I could go back and fix + open the hidden region.

Some guy used cheat codes to see what kind of Puppets/Boneka are in there,I really liked the Shanghai sprite. :3
I really wished you would continue with it,but that’s easiert said than done,after all you are the one who would be in charge of hacking it.
I really like hard Games,and this one is a damn good romhack,though some sprites could use an overhaul.
If more people would show interest in Touhoumon Insane,would you decide to continue to hack it?

If they show interest yeah.
The only reason some places were kind of fixed already, were because they are part of the new region.
I removed the sevii Islands for that purpose.

ummm….i downloaded Merry’s version 1.8 but it wont let me save….it keeps saying:

Easy, just open your emulator and go to Options > Emulator > Save Type and make it ”Flash 128K” instead of ”Flash 64K”.
Also, go to Options > Emulator and check id ”Ral Time Clock” is enabled.
If not, do so.
and the better choice for the emulator would be VBA 1.7.3, since with this, you can also trade your Touhous, which may causes some of them to evolve.

I have a 1.8 patch of Touhoumon (in japanese) with slightly increased difficulty. The patch also features the possibility to fight (in the same order and only once each): DSIRE (creator of the patch), Keine, Kaiba (he doesn’t relate to touhou but i’m not the one who put him), Tojiko, Futo, Miko, Marisa, Red, Shou, Letty, Chen, Alice, Primsriver sisters, Youmu and Yuyuko. I am having difficulties patching the .gba files….
I have winIPS32.exe working with the ips files, and a pokemon emerald.gba (I am trying to play World Link) and it gives me a Touhoumon World Link.gba file, though when I play it in the emulator (VisualBoyAdvance) it just plays like emerald, only difference is the name, any tips for troubleshooting?

Just to let everyone know, Cirnokuun released another beta recently, and will from now an be actively posting progress at supersanctuary (the forum that hosts the shoddy battle servers, if anyone doesn’t know about this).
He also intends to really get back into Touhou from what I’ve read, I hope the same enthusiasm will apply to other people here as well. 🙂

I think i just discovered a glitch in world link… I was fighting a CAlice in route 1, and when the fight finished, suddenly all the screen was reddish… I can’t get it off, i tried restart, new game, and all the means that came to my mind and nothing… I guess the game is now red forever…

Im sure this wrong place to ask, buuut anyone know how to fix 1m sub circuit error with the dstwo card? i saw in a past post aichiya uses dstwo card for testing to so i thought maybe posting here wuld help. So i put MMW on my card and transfered the save file and it plays ok with all save data, but touhoumon WL just stays as white screen
and AW loads and plays but when it starts it gives me the 1m sub-circuit error thing, but if i play through normally, and try to save it detects my save data so im confused as to how to play my original save data with it.

I am surprised to see Touhoumon Emerald is still relevant and still being worked on. I don’t know if this blog is still active but I’d like to say thank you for your hard work making this fan-made romhack. I’ve played it a few years back and had a really great time with it. I love Touhou and I love Pokemon. This was a way to re-experience my childhood having growing up with the old GameBoy/Advance generation of Pokemon. Cheers.
